Sierra verses Silverado

I just sold my 99' silverado and I'm going to eventully purchase another truck. All my previous trucks have been silverados (88, 89, 90, 99), but I was wondering If I should go with a Sierra this time around.

I would go with a either a 2500 or 3500, long bed, 4x4, ext cab or crew cab, trailering package and leather. I probably won't be able to afford a new truck so I'll be looking at the 2002-2004 models (under 30k miles).

So I'd like some input on the major differences between the Silverado and the Sierra because besides the name I can see any, also it would be helpfull if someone could inform me on what is the major differences between a 2500 and a 2500HD.

 but I guess I'm partial since I have only owned 2 Chevrolets since I have been buying vehicles (a 1989 Cavalier Z24 and a 2001 Chevrolet ZR2 Blazer). I have owned Pontiacs and GMC's primarily. Actually, the most "loaded" truck I have ridden in recently is a 2002 Chevrolet 1500 SLT which belongs a guy I work with... it has the most options I have ever seen.

ok that what i thought, the difference is mostly cosmetic. Now does anyone know the major differences between the 2500 and the 2500HD?

The GVWR is higher on the 2500HD, and you can chose between the 6.0,the 8.1 big block, or the 6.6 duramax. In the 2500 (non HD)the 6.0 is the only engine option.

When I ordered my GMC earlier this year I was told that it goes for about $500 more than the Chevy with the same trim package. I like the looks of the GMC over the Chevy, but both are great trucks.

The trim packages are slightly differnt, being the GMC's come with one or two things in the mid and high level trim that are options for the same levels of trim on Chevys.

That make sense or I confuse you more? I retyped it several times trying to make it less wordy, but it wasn't working.

The dealers are what make it confusing.

When all is said and done both trucks cost about the same.

Example: the chevy LS trim level is supossed to be the same as the GMC SLE. The GMC costs about $400.00 more but the SLE includes fog lights and tinted glass which are additional on the LS.

As far as the 2500 to 2500HD. Besides the engine choices the HD has a taller frame and sits about 2" higher. It also has a full floating rear end.

GMC's use more lockwashers, hence the difference in price...

I still get customers in here that swear the GMC's are a totally different truck :D I had one guy not long ago drive both a Chevy and a GMC and he said the GMC rode better, they were both 1/2 ton ext.cab short-bed Z71's so I couldn't figure out why

Anymore I just say "yeah" and let them say what they want!

I had worked for GMC as a mechanic. Generally the truck is the same with minor cosmetic differences and small trim differences. You would be suprised how many GMC's came in with a GMC badge on one side and CHEVY on the other. Just depends what day they roll off the assembly line...
