Tune-up time

I just turned 40K and have never done a thing to my truck except change the oil every 4k (Mobil 1 syn). I've noticed lately that the hoe feels a bit slugish. So I think it time for the major tune-up. The dealer recommended:

New fuel filter, tranny flush, MAS cleaning, P/S flush, Brake Flush. Along with the normal stuff (oil change, rotate tires, lube, etc.) I'm looking about $500.00 from the dealer. Just want to know if I need all these or if there's something I"m missing

Thanks

A new fuel filter wouldn't hurt, but will typically run you half an hour of labor (40 bucks at the dealer where I work as a mechanic's helper). You can do it yourself with two wrenches and a little bit of squirming (e.g., no jack required) if you don't mind getting a little gas on your hands/driveway. The tranny flush can really wait a while. I plan on doing mine at 50, as for p/s and brake fluid, as long as nothing feels abnormal, I wouldn't worry about either of those just yet. Also, I plan on doing the rear end when I do the transmission. Couldn't hurt to spray her down with some decarbon agent whenever you do the other items. In general, I wouldn't be too worried at 40k, though I do plan on doing the trans and rear end at 50 (my truck has a non-serviceable fuel filter :)).

I'm at 93,000 miles. . .any things I should consider when reaching the big 100K? I keep up on oil changes, just the differential and tranny oils changed.

GM says to do a tuneup at 100k. If the truck stills runs okay, you can put it off if you choose to, but once it starts running rough you've gotta do it right now, even if you're in the middle of a trip. No reason not to do it preventatively, seeing as the truck will require no more than 1-3 tuneups in its lifetime. A new PCV valve couldn't hurt. Check your air filter, if its the original, it is probably ready to be changed. The rule of thumb is that if you can shine a light through it, its okay. Also, your truck should have the air filter restriction indicator on it, that may be of use. If you did diff/tranny at 50k, do it again at 100k, if you did it at 75k, do it again at 150k, etc. If you have the auto transfer case, you should be changing the fluid every 50k, if you have the manual, you don't need to worry about it unless you spend a whole lot of time in 4x4. That's all that comes to mind at the moment, I'm sure others can think of other stuff you should do.

I don't think there's a need at 40k for a full on tune up. I mean you definately don't need new plugs and wires, those are good till 100k. Tranny flush and fuel filter isn't a bad idea. If it's just the sluggishness you want to fix, the fuel filter and MAF cleaning should help.
