replaceing door bushings?

Recommended Posts

On my drivers door I think that the bushing are going out of it, because it is wearing the door hook thing and I can move the door up and down a little.  I was wondering if it is easy to replace those or not. and how?

thanks

If your even going to think of attempting this, better get a couple of your buddies who are pretty strong.  That door is going to be heavy, and somebody is going to have to take it off of the hinges.

I'm not sure how similar this procedure on the Silverados is to the C/K trucks, but it can't be all that different.  I can tell you right now that if your striker is worn, that it will need replaced as well.  Unless the GM engineers smartened up, this will be the worst part of the whole ordeal.  You will have to remove a bunch of plastic trim pieces so you can get in behind the striker to keep the backing plate from spinning while threading the new one in.

For the pins, you will need some sort of flat bar (a crow bar might work) and a hammer.  Put the flat bar on one of the pins, and drive it out (make sure somebody is holding the door).  Then go to the other pin and repeat the procedure.  The door can be moved away from the truck now.  The bushings will need to be driven out of the holes in the hinges.  Just reverse the entire procedure to put the door back together.  It will take alot more time then you think....

its the piece that the striker attaches to that is worn down.   it looks like it is a reversable piece that i can take off and use the other side.

thanks guys for your info i hope to be able to do this sometime soon.
