4L60E REVERSE BANG

I replaced my transmission 1 year ago with a Gm unit. I installed a B&M super cooler, billet servos and a deep finned aluminum pan. I towed a utility trailer to and from New England (from Pittsburgh) without any problems. The trans temp never went past 215 and that was after climbing a large hill. Got home on Sunday the 17th. Vehicle drove fine on Monday and Tuesday (and it was hot here in Pittsburgh). Wednesday night after pulling out from a traffic light, I heard what sounded like the fan blades hitting the fan shroud. All day Thursday the noise was there. Every time I pulled out the noise was there. I replaced the trans mount thinking the mount was bad and the fan was hitting the shroud. WRONG! It is the same sound as when someone puts the transmission in reverse or park while the vehicle is still moving forward. Drove in this morning......trans was fine and shifted fine.......no noise........HOWEVER, when shifting from park to reverse, there is a delayed engagement and if you give it a little gas, there is a very loud BANG. Sometimes reverse will not engage and it will just mnake that grinding noise until you put it in park, apply the brake and then put it back in reverse. This is a NEW TRANSMISSION! PLEASE HELP!!!!

Sometimes there is a real bad shutter when the vehicle is in reverse and the brake is applied and you give it some fuel. It's in reverse, you can feel it but then it will shuuter really bad and shake the entire vehicle.

have you checked your fluid level? It shouds like the tranny is starved for fluid to me. Just my $.02

Fluid level is fine and I even changed it Friday night......it was clean.....no shavings or metal. I also drained and changed the fluid in the transfer case. I think it may be the transfer case instead of the tranny. Now it only acts up when attempting to use reverse......if your gentle, nothing happens but if you give it too much fuel too quickly, the vehicle will stop moving but there is a grinding sound directly proportionate to engine rpm....put it in park and the noise stops. Everything works going forward (all tranny gears and 2H, 4H and 4L).....How do you test a transfer case?

Transgo has a shift kit that has an inclusion about releasing the reverse gear. This kit fixes several weak links in the tranny.

Transgo has a shift kit to fix a shifting problem and they also have an inclusion for a reverse problem. Do a search on the net for chevy transmissions. I cannot find the link right now.

Check your shift linkage adjustment, sounds like the cowl pin (parking lock) may be engaging slightly when in reverse.

You can also hear similar noises if the transfer case shifter acts up but that would probably not be isolated to reverese only

New info..........when the vehicle seems to "slip out of gear" when in starting from reverse and the grinding noise starts, the engine rpm will increase due to no load but the speedo will start to register mph even though the vehicle is not moving. Also hear a rough engagement noise with a bang when selecting 4 HI while moving forward.
