Front Rotors and Pads

2000 Silverado 5.3 2 wheel drive. Need to replace rotors and pads on front. Any recommendations? Not looking for performance items, just good standard stuff. Any suggestions? Would Auto Zone or Advanced Auto PArts have acceptable parts?

I too have Praise Dyno and am very happy. If you are just looking for a cheaper alternative, Raybestos Ceramic pads are pretty good with very low dust as are Wagner Thermoquiet. Also heard good things about Hawk pads but never used myself. Regarding rotors, I like Raybestos and Brembo.

I used the rotors on my '97 from Advanced and went with orginal equipment pads. That's been about 30,000 miles ago and no problems and very little if any brake dust.

Thanks for the replys. I called the firm talked about in post 2 and 3. For the 2 front rotors and set of pads...$358.00. Now I like to keep my truck maintained but there ain't no way I am gonna spend that much on just rotors and brakes. I'm not roadracing or chasing cones with my truck. Anyone else have any experience with "real world" brakes? thanks anyway, but too much for my blood.

When you look at $80 per for the rotors, and $45 for the pads, you are at $205 for the cheap ones. Replace the rotors twice (which is what will happen when they warp) and you will have spent about the same amount.

I had put 3 sets of the normal rotors on my truck before I got the praisedyon stuff. I have not looked back since. I should have done it in the first place but did not want to spend the extra money and ended up spending more before I got smart. Just my $.02. Do it right the first time and you will never have to do it again.

Well, fortunatly I have 126K on the original items and have had no problems. I am of the opinon that if I take the rotor off to be turned I might as well and put on a new one.

I'll throw in my .02,If you got over 120k on the OE...why not put OE back on?

I know there not cheap,But its the brakes,I mean its a safety issue, don't go for the cheap stuff,Cheap pads and rotors will not last that long, believe me I see it here everyday,Guys want cheap pads/rotors then there back a few months down the road complaining about noise, squealing and brake dust or that the pads are not wearing like the OE's....Well da! There CHEAP! :D You get what you pay for! :D

Many guys on here have had great luck with the mileage on there OE pads/rotors just as you have with yours,so stick with OE and you'll be happy. :D

I guess I should have mentioned that when I traded my '99 it had almost 100k on it and the OE pads still had 50% left and the rotors were fine also. :D

There's nothing wrong with getting them turned. When you bring them to get turned, they will tell you wether or not it can be done. Maybe a 2wd is different, but on my 4wd I only paid $20 a peice for my rotors and like I said in previous post has over 30,000 miles on them with at least 50% of my pads left and hardly any brake dust at all. I understand not wanting to spend much money. That's why I went with what I did. Good Luck.
