A few wks ago i removed the chrome insert which is on the mirror and painted them blue to match the color of my truck.  In my opinion it looks SO MUCH BETTER

I saw your earlier posts on this subject and although I didn't post at that time, I just gotta say that they look pretty good. I know when I saw the pics before, it sure got me thinking about the mod. I'm afraid if I got started though, I would end up with no emblems and no chrome and that is a more permanent commitment than I'm willing to make right now. If this truck doesn't hold up for me and I have no reason to believe it won't, then I will trade in a couple of years and I have to think of trade value too.

This mod is definitely on my list for possible future mods.

I couldnt take it no more.  After 21K i said screw it.  I mess it up oh well.  Im happy i took a weekend and did it

Yea, it's nice to have big side mirrors, but all that chrome out there kind of detracts from the indigo blue IMHO.

I am thinking about doing the same thing. I looked really hard at my truck when I had one of the mirrors off while doing the heated mirror install. I think the crome on the mirrors takes away from the black.

I don't think that paintiing the mirrors will take away from the trade in value of the truck.  The reason that I say this is because the C3 and I believe the Tahoes and Yukons have them painted from the factory.

Now the question of the day is if I am putting the Escalade handles on my truck will I need the chrome on the mirrors so that the chrome on the handles don't look out of place?

I have the badges and the chrome side molding removed now.

If I am going to paint the mirrors then I will get them done at the same time as the door handle bezels.

What do you think?

If I am brave enough, I am taking out the reflectors in the headlamps this week too.

Ryan great result with the mirrors..

They definately give the truck something for someone to take a second look at...

I had a question for ya.. What kind of prep work did you have to do for the chrome to get painted.. I would like to paint the center bar on my truck black to match the truck but i just dont know how to prep the chrome before it can be painted..

Thanks!!

1st i took a scotch brite pad.  Roughed up the surface.  Then i applied this surface modifier stuff (clear chemical stuff).  Guy at the autoparts store said (also a body shop guy suggested) this will help the paint adhere to the curvature of the shape.  Let it dry 10-15 min (says min 5 min dry time)  Then i sprayed on primer.  Let dry.  Then i sprayed on the blue paint.  3-4 coats (till it looked good).  Then after i left that dry i sprayed on clearcoat.  Let dry and thats it

Paint ran me $8 (2 spray cans)

Modifier stuff was $30 for a pretty good sized container.  Im sure you can get it cheaper.

Primer was like $4

Clear coat was less than $5

I was quoted at $90 a mirror so i saved a nice chunk of change.  Ill probably have to repaint one day due to nicks from rocks but its not to bad.

If you wanna take it one step furthur buy some of that 3m film and apply it over to save from chips

PACO my interior is graphite.  The dark color.  I like the interior

Thanks for the info ryan!

I m gonna get a quote from my dealer to see what they will charge me..

90 bucks per mirror sounds outragious!

the money you saved there is incredible!

IMO and not to offend anyone, but I think that blue interiors are dorky...they don't even phase red ones though...GOSH.  I passed up a good deal on a truck just because I didn't wanna look at that red dash, seats, and carpet all the time!!

i agree with you the blue and red interiors were UGLY!

I never noticed but the interior and the seatbelts in the one pic do look blue.  Must have been the reflection off the side of the truck
