ok guys I'm posting this in both light duty and heavy duty areas since my truck seems to fall in between...ok my truck 2003 gmc 2500 4x4 6.0/4.10 rated to tow between 10200-10700 #'s can't quite remember....well any how that's bumper, and I'm leaning towards a 24-30' goose neck for jeep and quad hauling.....can you tow more weight with a goose neck? everyone (all the trailer places) says that it's much easier on the truck but does it raise the tow limit? thanks for your time

Not really. The advantages of a gooseneck/5th wheel trailer are in the load-carrying (as in volume) ability, stability and maneuverability of the trailer. Gooseneck and 5th wheel trailers allow some of the load to be placed squarely over the drivers which generally gives more load volume and more stability. Also, with a gooseneck/5th wheel, you can turn the truck 90 degrees (or more) to the trailer which helps with backing and turning sharp corners. There may be some increased weight limits but you'd have to check your owner's manual. I think goosenecks and 5th wheels are in a different category on the trailering charts.

It does increase it slightly becuase you don't have the leverage of the tongue behind the axle. That is all factored into figuring the tongue weight though.
