GM Molded Splashguards

I want to get a set of GM GMC molded splashguards for my new 05 but I am concerned with the paint getting worn away under the plastic splashguard.

I have the GM guards on our 03 Bravada and the paint is wearing and my buddy has them on his 99 Silverado and his paint is very worn. I like the HuskyLiners on my dads HD because they come with a clear plastic protector that sticks on the paint behind the splashguard so they dont rub the body.

I really want the GM ones because I can get the GMC logo on them. I am not a fan of the flat, non molded ones from GM. I was thinking about applying some cap foam on the inside of the splashguards to keep them from touching the body.

Anyone have any ideas?

3M paint protection film on the contact surfaces is a great way to keep the guard off the paint. If you trim it right, you won't be able to see it - but even if you do, it will be discreet.

Remember that the flap does flex, so you would have to make sure the film accounts for this.

I have had the 3M clear paint protector under my flaps and they still wore thru and wore into the paint. While they are great flaps. the design is flawed because of the constant rubbing.

I have put the 3M tape on and it still rubbed, I put a rubber/foam type of weatherstrip material behind there and it wore thru and started rubbing the paint too. The problem is that debris, small pebbles and dirt gets behind the flap and with the fluttering, it creates a sandpaper effect and rubs thru anything protective you put behind it.

I hated to see mine go, but I finally left them off and went with the flat black ones. I tried everything short of voodoo to make them work.

Since my Husky's did come with any kind of protection I used black high density foam tape (from Pep Boys) under the lips which has kept the paint from rubbing off; BUT, when I last looked it appears that the black foam tape has discolored my white paint a gray color - I guess due to outgassing ... dang

Mine were wearing...I basically took them off, cleaned te areas, used to GM matched paint for touch-up...then, I went and got some 3M outdoor double-sided tape and put it on the truck with some trimming on te curved places. I left the other side with the red plastic ON...so it would not trap sand and pebbles in between the gaurd and tape. The outdoor DS tape is really thick and tough, it does not like to come off either. With a little time you can make it look fine, although my truck is dard red so it matched OK, but would be fine anyway as it is under the gaurd. That was acouple months ago and everything is still fine. Cheap fix too. One of the gaurds was wearing pretty good...glad I noticed in time. The 3M tape looks as though it will take a long time to wear through, if ever...hope this helps, later,

Where can I find the 3M paint protector at? I have been to my local parts stores and they dont even know what im talking about

My dads truck has Husky Liners and it came with a clear plastic that has protected his paint. I ordered my GMC molded splashguards and Id like to have some of this 3M stuff before I put them on.
