Buzzing Noise inside

There is a noise coming from somewhere under my dash that sounds like a mini motor or like a line on the stereo has crossed with something and I am picking up reception. The buzzing/motor sound speeds up when I accelerate and idles when the truck does. I took it to my mechanic who is scratching his head, thought it might be a transmission thing and tried shifting the (transfer case?) on the floor from 2wheel to 4wheel to neutral no change...

I do not want to go to the dealership, but would like to know if anyone can tell me what this is. This has been ongoing for about 3 months and is getting louder.

I would be willing to put money on the fact that it's coming from your speakers. It's alternator whine, and is usually indicative of a bad ground somewhere in the stereo system.

You wouldn't happen to have aftermarket stereo stuff would you?

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! This is the second forum I have asked this on and no one has answered me until now! I DO in fact have aftermarket stereo equiment....ironically only a few months old. I thought it could be the stereo, but my mechanic didn't think so. I will now be going back to circuit city and have them fix it. Much appreciated!!!!! You probably just saved me a bundle by not having to go to the dealership and have them charge me an arm and a leg to tell me the same thing!

Knowing Circuit City, they may tell you that you're screwed and that it's normal. Don't take that crap. Sometimes, a noise reducer LIKE ONE OF THESE will do the trick. Sometimes you can turn down the gain on your amps to get rid of it....But usually it's the ground off of the head unit causing it.

Or -just a thought- if you ran your RCA lines close to your amplifier power wires, the power signal can bleed over into the RCA wires and cause the whine.
