How do you get the shops to mount a 285

The local BFG shop would not mount a 285 on the OEM Z71 7" wide wheel so I called around and found one that would but once they saw my 99 Z-71 they said they would not mount the tire due to rubbing issues with the truck. How do you guys get around this?

Has anyone run 285's long term on the 7" wheel and does the center wear more?

If tire shops told me that, i would move...because youre obviously surrounded by retards.

It's called Liability. If a tire shop mounts any manufacturers tire on a rim that is not recommended by that tire manufacturer and there is an accident or problem caused by the tire not being mounted on the recommened rim then the tire company cannot be sued by you, yours or anyone else who would happen to be in that vehicle at the time of the accident. In other words, if you have a problem with say a BFG tire mounted on a rim width that BFG does not recommmend for that size of tire then the only person that can be litigated is the retard that mounted the tire in the first place if it can be proved that mounting that tire on the non recommended rim caused the problem(Blowout, Body Damage, Excessive tire wear and so on). I know a lot of people do it without any problems happening, but there are a lot of places that won't because of the liability issue or they just want to sell you new rims. :seeya:

I've never had a tire shop even bring it up with me. Most of them have even suggested 285s (when I had stock rims).

I would just call around. You'll find a place.

From Tire Rack:

For the BFG AT KO:

Rim

Width

Range

7.5-9"

And for the other favorite

Revo:

Rim

Width

Range

7.5-9"

I did a bit of browsing around and I don't see a single manufacturer that recommends a 285/75-16 on a 7" rim width.

The narrower rim could cause crowning of the tire causing excessive treadwear near the center. Tire pressure adjustments could mitigate this a bit. For you guys that run the 285 on the OEM wheel what tire pressures do you run?

    • Yes it can be a challenge for obvious reasons. Remember when people were blocked on websites during the last administration if you didn’t agree. Being retired I can scan all the sites and podcasts. I start in the morning with Glen beck during my walk. Then I watch Orielly that I recorded the night before. I scan the headlines on Newsmax, and News Nation. News Nation has Como so it’s diverse. Weekly him and Orielly have debates sometimes Steven A is along for the ride. My nightcap is Jesse Watters for comic relief. Then it’s the Astros, that’s been disappointing. Sometimes Greg Kelly if the Astros are getting blown out.
    • I believe the only thing that can be monitored is negative electrical current returning through the frame instead of the ground wire. It's just a guess, but that's how your home gfi breakers work and my theory is that is what's going on. I will be watching for what you figure out.
    • Glad it worked for you. I tried that 1st, about 2 years ago. Didn't help. I also tried doing a hard reset (disconnecting battery for minimum of 30 minutes). Worked a couple times, but after one summer of doing it over and over, that no longer worked.  I was fairly confident it was either the compressor or a failed actuator, but I just couldn't identify which one. Had to research which actuators do what and which last numbers are associated with each.
    • Took me FIFTEEN MINUTES to find this. Isn't that a problem? On the mainstream media I can INSTANTLY find 100 articles bashing President Trump ... but when it comes to TRUTH in American corporate news & search engines, it's carefully filtered to support ONE SIDE. A Republic cannot survive like this! Incredible! Even all the AI searchers out there failed as well! ChatGPT said it needed more details on the video that I provided a DIRECT LINK to! I thought AI was the be-all, end-all?? I had to dig it up myself. This should be FRONT PAGE NEWS!!! 🤬   Here's the statement directly from our President:     Glenn Beck's reporting on the operation:   https://glennbeck.com/watch/videos/trump-just-revealed-a-massive-military-secret-that-lowered-gas-prices   In case that link doesn't work, here's the YouTube link:     And another 15 minutes to find this clip out of Glenn Beck's video - the first few seconds is all the corporate media will allow the public to see, since the low IQ people will think Trump said " I love inflation ", and that was the end of it. Taken WAY out of context! Here's that part, plus the 2nd part about the oil smuggling operation:
    • More is cylinder deactivation. Kia-Hyundai Ive had 4. The warranty is the same 10 years 100K miles. My grandson drives the first one 05 Elantra GT. My wife drives the second one 2011 Genesis. The Genesis still performs as new and looks great. The Elantra looks rough. He’s not kind to it. The third was a Genesis coup. The fourth was a Santa Fe. Those were my daily drivers. I don’t keep them long. Kia is the same as Hyundai with the same warranty. I looked at the K-4 today. Too small, otherwise pretty good buy. Most of Hyundai and Kia’s have a performance upgrade.
