Mexican Suburban Picture

Here is a picture of a Mexican Suburban. I was in Texas over the past week (near the Mexican border) and saw one of these. I have to tell you, I was pretty jealous. I like the look of it more than our U.S. model. Anybody else seen one of these?

Yes, I have seen them around Laredo and Nogales. Why be jealous? The Mexican Subs with the 03’ – 05’ front-end treatment have to be one, if not the most, least desirable GM front end appearances ever offered by Chevrolet. The angry kitchen appliance appearance only appeals to a small percentage of folks.

I am sure a lot of 03’-05’ Chevrolet truck owners will chime in to say otherwise only to justify and defend their purchase, but…think about it. Why didn’t Chevrolet Motor Division put this ugly mug their profitable US full-size SUV’s????….Because, it was not a HIT due to it’s questionable appearance and poor media reception.

It's only a bit of sheetmetal...And I believe that it will all bolt up to an existing Burb if you had the inclination (not to mention a little extra $$ laying about) to do it. There are several people in my area that have done it.

I love the way the trucks look...From the front. But that foot of sheetmetal between the front bumper and the front wheelwells makes the truck look nose-heavy and retarded from the side (my '02 has about 2", not 1'). The hard angles on the front of the trucks don't match the smooth lines of the back of the truck either...This is especially evident on the sportsides, they look like bastard stepchildren...The front just doesn't match with the back.

If you'll forgive the pun...Just looks like GM half-assed it to me.

I've actually seen them on the lots of a couple of local Chevy Dealers in the Dallas area. They had them mucked up with SS badges and such. I'm not really a fan of the newer Chevy front ends. Like Wingnut, I think the front has too many sharp angles compared to the rest of the body on the trucks and the Burbs... But, hey, if you like it... go for it.

I completely agree with Wing. Other car manufacturers come up with better integration methods for minor skin changes between major platform upgrades. Whether you love it or hate it, NBS is rounded from it's original nose to tail as a complete package. The new front end could work, but it just can't blend correctly with the rest of body.

I guess we'll see how this evolution plays out in the 2007 models.

Ok, I'll go first. To start, I don't have to 'defend' my purchase at all. I actually chose to wait until '03 to purchase until the new look was out. And, I love my chiseled '03. I think the 'burb looks great with the new look. The only improvement I could think of would be to chisel the butt end like they did on the Escalade. I'm actually kind of disappointed that GM has kept the same boring front on the Suburban/Tahoe as long as they have.

You're absolutely right. GM's last gasp to remedy this came on the new rear glass used on the 2006 SUV models. The glass is similar to the non-rubber-edged panel used on the ESV. And the top panel by the top brake light is creased - this sharpens up the rear. Weird they did the update with just one year left on this platform.

I agree. Trash that angular, bizarre-looking front end.

I'd like a new truck, and the current employee discount is enticing, but there's no way I'd buy a truck with that ugly-a$$ front end. I'll spend the extra money when they switch to something that looks less retarded.

Thats why I went GMC over Chevy. GMC kept the same hood, fenders and headlamps from 99 but they did change the grille and bumper in 03. I love these trucks, but I just couldnt live with the Chevy. Like said before, the roundness of the trucks dont match the angles of the fronts.....and I really dont mind the chevy front from straight on, but theres something strange about the way the front fenders meeting the bumper and headlamps. I cant wait to see the new GMT-900s.

I only like the front end on these trucks in a HD 4x4. When its a HD and a 4x4 you get those flared fenders and plus its taller, so the truck has more curves and body lines......other wise on a 2wd 1500 it just looks like the truck has to many straight lines on it, with a frontend heavy point on it.

The Chevy trucks to me up to 02 look to much like they did in mid 80's. It seams like they have had that same body style for 20 years now. But then of course in 03 they put that, as Larry said "angry kitchen appliance appearance" on it.

Hate the look of my 03 Z71, but it was either this look or another brand. I don't care how ugly they make it, I won't defend the look, but I will definatly buy another Chevy. I won't even defend the fact that I bought one of the ugliest front ends in Chevy truck history, but I couldn't wait for the redesign. Its only sheet metal.

Not a real big fan of the '03 to present Chevy front ends that's why I put the SS facia on my 2500. I liked the GMC's before the '03 change - not a real big fan of the chrome "smile" in the bumper. But lifted HD's of both makes do look pretty good.

The Chevy tail lights do look much better than the tricolor ones on the GMC's and '99 -'02 Chevys.

I agree with Mark. I think that the new "angry" front design looks pretty good on the big chevys like the dually. It is just too drastic of a change for the light duty trucks. If I were buying a new truck to replace my 99 Rado I would get the GMC which keeps the rounded front end.
