Gas: 87 or 89 with Ethanol?

What do you all think about running 89 octane fuel with ethanol in the Burb? It's actually cheaper here in Nebraska than the straight 87 octane...

I have run 89 with ethanol for years and see virtually NO difference at all. It is now cheaper in Illinois now too because of taxes. You will be just fine running it.

It used to be in order to run gasahol you had to advance the timing a little to make up for the different burn. I guess with the computers now, they take care of that for you.

Unless you have the Flexible Fuel option for your vehicle Don't Do It!! High amounts of Ethanol can mess up the inside of your engine. (Rust I believe). I am not sure, but you might want to check your owners manual. It will give a maximum allowable ethanol content. Again, the flexible fuel option (which allows the use of E85 gas) is another story. But if you just have a standard issue engine I wouldn't use it.

All 1/2 ton Burbs built from '02 to current have the 5.3l Flexible fuel option. So, you can run up to 85% EtOH in your wifes 'Burb and be fine.

Capitol, he is refering to 89 octane or the 10% blend of ethanol, not E-85.

 

I have run 10% ethanol in NON-flex fuel engines with zero probems or issues.
