Consequences of wrong sPlug gap

Picked up a set of ACdelco Iridium spark plugs for the 5.3. Was willing to pay extra as these seem to be the closest to original plugs I took out (after 75Kmiles)

Label under hood says gap should be 0.060". Plug box says "adjust gap before installing". BUT guy at parts store said "Put them in as-is right out of box". His reason was the extra small size electrode tips break easy and its not worth the chance.

I measured the gap out of the box at 0.040" (was consistent on all eight).

So I put them in at 0.040.

Runs fine this morning 30miles to work. No observable issues to me.

Should I pull them out and gap them to 0.060?

If that is what I need to do it won't be hard. Already did the hard part breaking them all loose and now the threads and boots are coated with the right stuff.

It's not a stupid question. You may have an occasional misfire, but I doubt even that. Most likely, you won't notice any difference between the right gap and what you have.

Hope that Katrina storm left you alone.

No, unfortunately it didn't. We got back power sooner than most (I think half a million are still without) but I lost shingles, a screened in patio and the neighbors 50 ft. palm tree came crashing through the fence and ended up in my backyard. Missed the house by two feet!!

So, I spent all day yesterday with the neighbors cutting up the tree and hauling it out front and I'm headed out to do more cleanup in a few minutes.
