I have 04 Z71 and it has a knocking noise coming from underneath the dash in the middle. It seems to me that it has something to do with the vents or climate contol. The noise is like a constant thump. Also, has anybody heard of the altenator going bad quick. It is whinning louder and louder. Any help will be appreciated.

Mine is in the shop for a tapping sound behind the dash too (Drove me crazy). As soon as I brought it in the service writer knew what it was. I will find out tommorrow when I pick it up.

 

My '04 is also in for a whiney power steering pump, intermittent horn, weak drivers side windshield sprayer, vibrating steering column. 5 problems in all.

Mine is doing the same thing. Sounds like it is coming right under the heater controls. Like a thump thump thump noise. Whether the vehicle is running or not with the key turned to "on". Strange, let us know what it is.

It is an accuator, which switches the temp somehow. Mine was replaced at my last weekly visit to Chevy.

This must be a widespread faulty part then huh? Is this something to be concerned about, like a "fix it now" item?

I dont think so. It was just an annoyance to me hearing the vehicle 'purcolate'. Just one of many issues my truck has and since it was going in for others, I threw this on the list also.

That was it. An Actuator. The Stealer had to remove my Center Console and dash just to get to it.

Tough luck for the poor dealer. Thank god for warranties.

Mine is in for he same thing also. My dealer is f-n with me a little though. Every time I take it in they either say no problem found or that it is functioning per spec. This happens with other faults besides the one mentioned. It seems that it takes 2-3 trips forthem to "give in".

 

Either way it makes me feel like they just don't care to fix it if it's not obvious.
