Pool Table

Watch the classified ads for used tables. People will sell them for next to nothing to get them out of the house. However, you will need to move the heavy sucker (usually in the basement) and set it up. Having a dealer do that is the one advantage of a new one.

I am looking for a non expensive nice pool table for my house.  I found this one and it looks like a good price.  What do you think is Mizerak a good brand?

Been kicking this idea around, too, Ryan.

What I have found from the 'net and personal advice given is that you really want to spring for a slate top. The less expensive models generally use MDF. I am holding out for a nice used one (AMF maybe) with a true® slate top. I have seen the Mizeraks on Ebay quite a bit and they seem to be somewhat on the lower end of the price scale so might be worth it for a starter table.

Anyway, good luck!

You absolutely want to get a slate table. The slate is usually 3/4" thick and is 3 pieces. After you level it you melt paraffin wax in the seams to make a smooth transition between the pieces of slate. MDF is ok, but the balls will only roll true on slate. As mentioned earlier you can get good deals from people that want to get rid of them.

The biggest mistake most people make is buying a table to large for the space they put it in. You need a minimum of 1 cue length to the wall on all four sides.

If you have any other questions let me know. I used to play quiet a bit and have owned several tables over the years.

Just go to Home Depot and get a couple of 4x4's, a sheet of MDF, and a hole saw and make your own. You can even make obstacles and stuff. Put as many d**n holes on there as you want, even some in the middle. :chevy: Then, hot-glue some felt on there and you're done.

Dont buy that! Trust me, its a cheap table and anyone who actually shoots a half decent game of pool will notice it right away. Your better off getting a nice used slate table.

My dad and I looked at the SAME table when we were in Sears last week. We came to one conclusion, IF a pool table was purchased, it would be a slate table...
