pcm tune

I have a 2000 GMC 2500 with a 6 liter. My question is will a tuned pcm give me any more power or gas mileage still using regular fuel? I use the truck strictly for towing so i wouldnt want any overheating problems. I dont know anything about these tunes and was just wandering if there would be any advantage to this. I dont want to create any heating issues or want to use premium fuel. Thanks for any input.

Agreed,

The Vortec 6000 has about 25-30 HP on 87 Octane and 20-25 lbft on torque waiting to be unleashed by a custom tune. The PCM features a Catalytic Converter Over Temperature mode that will richen the fuel if the mixture is too lean. The PCM's richening of fuel will cool the engine and converters preventing damage.....Unless Jesse turns it off, which I doubt.

Get a tune !!!!! Vhato's assesment of gains are quite accurate, but there's even MORE power to be had with higher-grade fuels. With an intake and tune and nothing else, my truck picked up over 60hp... AT THE WHEELS !!!!!!

But that's a Wester's tune  Best of the best :P:cheers:

But Jesse's tunes seem to have a VERY strong, loyal folloing, too :nods:

Yea, just tell whichever tuner you choose what you want to accomplish and you won't be disappointed. There's alot of hidden performance to be had by proper PCM tuning, and most good tuners can unlock gains for any octane fuel. As mentioned above, there's definitely more power to be had with a higher octane tune, but still alot that can be done on 87 octane

i got a "fuel economy" tune.. i got 2mpg on the freeway and the other day i beat an audi a4 and a corolla xrs, both 180-200 hp, that means 0-60 in the 7's with a 7000 pound rig, the truck is an absolute beast on the freeway, thats also the 89octane tune with torque management taken away

I gained a noticable difference in HP and TQ on my truck with the tune from Wait4meperformance.com I like it a lot. As far as gas mileage goes I gained about 1-2 city mileage and highway mileage stayed the same as before.
