Tailgate Spoiler

Does anyone know if the tailgate spoiler that comes standard on Chevrolet's will work on GMC's as well. I have an '05 GMC Crew Cab 2wd and just like the aggressive look of the one on the Chevrolet's better than the plain looking one on my truck. I think they're about $40-50. Also, I noticed there are four alan bolts on them. Will they require drilling holes or are they purely cosmetic? Thanks in advance for the information and assistance.

On my '03 and '05 Z71 pickups, the spoiler is held on by combined 3M tape and bolts that you mention. The bolts are real, going into threaded receivers.

 

Honestly, the bolts are overkill. I think the 3M tape would be more than sufficient without the bolts to hold the spoiler in place. However, you'd have the bolt holes to put up with.

I just had one installed on my '05 GMC Sierra X-cab Z-71. You need to slightly lift up one end of your current tail gate protector to see if the hex holes are already in the tail gate. The hole is about 1 to 2 inches from the end of the protector. The holes aren't round. They are a hexagon shaped hole that hold an insert for the spoiler screws. The guy at the shop where mine was installed said that drilling holes can be done, but he doesn't recommend it. He felt it should only be done if the hex holes are already there. If memory serve me correctly, I paid $68 for mine.

No, not all of the tailgates have the holes. All you need to do is lift on the lower edge of the current tail gate protector to see the holes. That's what my installer did to check mine.

Actually all the GM tailgates do have the 4 holes needed to install the spoiler.

I've tried getting a tailgate without the holes for some customers here at the dealership,When I called GM they told me they all have the holes.

They are all the same part number,The only difference is between a fleetside and a stepside bed.
