What is the main purpose for those plastic points on the headlight lens? Is it part of the molding process? Couldn't they clean it up afterwards? It never fails when I was the truck to catch the sponge on those every time. :chevy:

I always thought they were there to align or locate some kind of gizmo that's placed over the lens that adjusts the headlight aim during assembly.

When I was working for an independent auto shop way back in the mid 90's we had this headlight aimer that we hardly used. I do remember however that it used those 3 prongs to mount the aiming head properly.

That's exactly what they're there for. And in some cases, you might note a number cast in right next to it that's used to set up the aimer.
