Had an Eaton Locker put in

Hey guys,

Over the weekend I had an Eaton Locker put in the truck.  It was their series 3 locker, whatever that means.  This morning I backed the truck on grass, and stepped on the gas.  I was expecting to see two marks where it dug up the grass, but only the right one did.  However last night, I put the left tire on the grass, and the right one on the pavement and stepped on the gas.  That time the left tire did spin and dug up the grass.  I also tried to do a break torque and it was extremely more difficult to do than before.  I confused as to why it didn't leave two marks in the grass.  Is this locker working properly?  Any ideas would be much help, because I think I might have to take it out.

Thanks chevy4x4trucks

That’s what I was afraid of.  I think I bought a POS instead of a POSI.  I am going to have to do more tests on it. (beat the crap out of it until I get both wheels to lock up)

On the way home from school today I stopped in a stone parking lot.  I gave it some gas and the tires broke free, and this time both of them spun, and left two marks.  I then decided to peel out at an intersection, and only one tire spun.  I was getting pissed.  So I put the truck in a grassy field and had a friend watch the left tire.  He said that the minute I got on the gas, the left tire jerked, and then stopped right away.  Is this normal for them to do this, or do you have to break them in?

I finally jacked the back of the vehicle up and had a friend hold one tire while I spun the other tire in the opposite direction real fast.  The two tires never locked up.  The rear has synthetic gear oil in it, and a limited slip additive in it.  Does anybody know what could be wrong with this?  I need some help on this one.  Is this a pre-load issue or something else?

Hmmm, odd, this summer I jacked up my rear end and spun one tire and the other spun the opposite direction.  I've got the G80 locker.

Did you get yours installed some place?  If you did I would take it back and tell them it doesn't work.  Also, give eaton a call about it.

C'mon Kansas Kid, get in here and prove me wrong already :sarcasm:

When I spun the wheels, one went forward, and the other backward.  If you do it fast enough, they will eventually lock together, and spin in the same direction.  We did the test to my friends 93 GMC, and the wheels locked together.  He has the same Eaton locker I do.  Someone mentioned that there is a flywheel in the locker that controls when it locks.  I wonder if that went bad.  I just wish i knew what was wrong with it.  The mechanic who put it in said it looked all right except for a mark on the side of the case.  He also said the ring gear run-out was more than it should be.  I put over $350 into it and it doesn't work :but:

Try this-

Jack up the left rear wheel, and block a front tire to provide a little resistance, then try to drive it off the jack. If the diff is open, the left tire will spin, and the truck won't move, but if it drives off, the locker is working.
