Tapping noise

I bought my 96 Yukon a year ago with 160,000 miles on it. I rearly use it, Ive put 2000 miles on it this year. She runs great, all I had to do was switch out the shocks. I replaced the plugs and wires and all the belts.

After I replashed the shocks I started getting this tapping sound that comes and goes. I can go days without hearing a thing then when I hit a bump I will hear a tapping sound as if something is loose. I only hear it when I step on the gas, if I take my foot off the gas the tapping stops. And I can only hear it when Im driving under 30mph. It only happens for a few minutes then its gone and I wont hear it for days until I hit another little bump. I cannot pin point were the noise is coming from. 1st I hear it from the front of the car and then in the middle. Im just not very familiar with the mechanics of the Yukon.

I plan on taking the Yukon to a mechanic but I dont want to get stuck with one of those guys that says "it could be this" and then charges me to fix something that isnt broken. I want to be able to direct him to the problem. Someone told me that I might have a loose shock, another said to check my U joints (geez I have no idea what a U joint is).

Any help and or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. :banghead:

Based on your description this sounds like an exhaust leak. Cheap and easy fix.

Can't make any promises without hearing it though.

With that many miles on your vehicle get your u-joints changed anyway in my opinion.

Doesn't cost much and good preventative maintenance.
