2005 Silverado 1500HD Fuel Economy

My buddy just picked up an '05 Silverado 1500 HD.

What kind of mileage can you expect with truck. We went for a drive on Saturday and the DIC said 17.7L/100 km which is horrible. Another guy I know trying to get out of his lease because the truck sucks back way too much gas. Any input would be appreciated.

I have an 2003 and if I drive 75+ I get 12.5, if I drive 70 I get 14, and if I drive 60 I get 17, see the trend...... :dupe: Mines broken in. I was hoping to squeeze a couple more out with a Wait4me tune.

I have a 2002 Suburban 2500 with the same drive train as a 1500HD. I was getting around 14mpg highway at 70 before I changed to Airraid MIT. Mileage went up 1 to 1.5 mpg. I have not yet checked the highway mileage with the WaitForMeTune. I was getting around 12mpg mixed mostly rural 2 lane road driving.

You can see what kind of truck I have in my signature picture. I just filled up at half a tank(minor gas shortage here) and I got 16mpg with a mixture of highway and city driving. About 75% city driving, 25% highway. My truck only has 1800 miles on it though. I figure by about 5,000+ miles, I will be getting 18 to 19 mpg in the same situation. :dupe:

The 6.0 is not an economy engine and is very sensitve to throttle positition. That's why the mileage sucks. Plus the gearing in the 4L80E trans has a higher first gear (than the 1/2 tons 4L60E trans) and between that and the torque management control really make the truck feel really doggy and gutless.

I recommend getting a custom tune by Wester's. I know Wait 4 Me costs less, but I know that Lyndon has the experience and has great customer service. I feel you get what you pay for. Plus for you sledr, he's a fellow Canadian too.

A custom tune should maybe pick up another another mile to mile and half per gallon. For you Canadians just divide that by 3.785 for literes. It's not much but every little bit helps.
