Accessing DIC without Steering Controls

I appologize if someone has asked this already, but am wondering if I can through contact switches to the appropriate under-dash connector get access to the DIC.

 

Today I have an 04 Tahoe LS 1SK without the steering controls, and wondering if one were to simply apply switches hot/and ground to the appropriate place within the connector and get access to the system.

 

Anyone every try it ?

 

Also, would you think that it's all in there or would the PCM have to be reprogrammed if it did not come ready from the factory.....

It is possible but the cluster needs reprograming in most cases. Some don't have the full dic functions but when they did the conversion they didn't have to get the cluster reprogramed. Here's some reading that might help out a little bit. And here's a topic from radio and sound CLICK
