Bed removal

2000 Silverado fuel pump needs replacing. Got some extra help on removing the bed. Anyone thats done this before, can you give me a list of things that need to be removed from under the bed. And, once you get the tank is there anything else that I will need other than the pump assembly? Any info on this job is very much appreciated.

Should be a matter of 6 bed bolts, the wiring at the rear of the truck (where it goes from the frame to the bed), and then the fuel filler neck. Other than that it should just lift off.

Forgive me for sounding ignorant since I haven't changed a pump on the newer trucks, but why not just drop the tank?

I haven't done mine yet, touch wood, but, I think it's easier to remove the box as the tank is very large and a bit of a brute to lower. I think it has something to do with the lines to the tank as well...

Just my two bits worth...

Yeah, it's only about 15 times easier to just lift the bed. Every bolt is a LOT easier to get to than the ones holding the tank on. Slaving away under there for 4 hours trying to get that tank out isn't my idea of a great time...But freaking people out when you lay a pickup bed in your front yard on a pretty Sunday afternoon, knowing that your nosy neighborhood assoc soccer moms are giving birth to small bricks as they walk past with their yapping schnauzers....That's almost worth doing it when the pump doesn't need replaced.

We just did my Fuel pump a few weeks back (2000 GMC). It was only two of us so we dropped the tank.

I can see how it would be SO much easier to pull the bed back for sure.

Whichever is easier, though if it was me, I'd set it in the grass, just to be safe. . .

And yes I've dropped the tank before (had to, in order to remove the drivers side front leaf spring bolt. Its a royal PITA.

tank removal is a pain since every time a pump went bad on me the tank was full. I read the chilton looked the situtation over and decided the bed was coming off. less than an hour later, I was putting the bed liner back in and getting ready to start her up. And I didn't even make a mess!!!!!
