GMC Sierra Steering rattle and Oil Gauge Issues

jfrostjr

Question

I have a 2000 GMC Sierra Z71 with a 5.3L V8. I have two issues that I am looking at some help on.

I experience a rattling/vibration through the steering wheel (mostly at low speeds). I have it going on for a while now, but now it is really becoming quite an annoyance. I read something about a lubrication kit and also about an intermediate steering shaft replacement. Do you have any info or service tech document ID's I could have my dealership refer to? I have heard the lubrication kit will fix, although typically temporarily, and that the newly designed shafts will correct permanently?

The second issue deals with my oil pressure meter on my instrument cluster. The oil pressure reading needle shakes all over the place at various times in the truck. It will do it in park with the engine idiling. It will do it while in gear and driving. It will do it at idle while in gear with the brakes on. The only time it seems to not shake is under moderate to heavy acceleration. I have had the dealership look into and they replaced the sending unit, but that does not seem to have cleared up the issue. Do you have any ideas? Once again, any services tech docs or light you could shed would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for your help in advance!

If your dealer doesn't know about this issue, they're from Mars and you should probably try to find a dealer that has earthlings working there.

I'm not familiar with this specific issue but it sounds like the gauge itself. No TSB's that I'm aware of.

How hard would you rate the difficulty of replacing the intermediate steering shaft to correct the issue (per TSB 00-02-35-003? I know it is hard to gauge, but a rough estimate would be great, or if anybody has any experience with it that they would share it would be great to hear about also. Thanks!
