Me again. 2001 Silverado 1500 2wd, 4.8L. When i fill the gas tank, the gauge registers completely empty for the first 50 miles. Then it shows almost full. For the first half of the tank, it fluctuates from full to empty and everywhere in between. Sometimes it starts on empty and very slowly creeps back to half full and finally jumps to above half.

 

Has this happened with other vehicles? Any idea on a fix? Sensor in tank, wiring problem? Any info would be great.

Yep, very common problem. Fuel sending unit/pump assy is $220 at the local parts store.

Time to remove the bed and swap it out :nopity:

I got a quote for 350.00 Cdn for the Fuel level sensor and 750.00 Cdn for the whole unit. Aren't you glad you don't live up here

That was from a dealer not installed.
