Received Wait-4-Me PCM today

I received the new PCM from Wait-for-me Performance today for my 04 2500HD 4x4.

When I opened the package I noticed that the new module looks used. That doesn't bother me, but what I am concerned with is the writing on the module.

This was hand written on the piece:

04 CT 1500

5.3L Auto 4x4

C# 3855 WR

My truck has the 6.0L motor and is a 2500 not a 1500.

I tried to call them and got the answering machine. The machine had a message that said that they are in Las Vegas for the SEMA show and will not be back till next week, and to call back then.

Will this module be alright to put in my truck??

the 5.3L worries me.

When I placed the order, I gave my phone # with detailed info about my truck, and what I use the truck for.

I even called to confirm everything.

I am all set to install this BUT !

This sucks. I hate waiting.

What should I do?

Your VIN # should identify your truck to the company that wrote your program.

As far as it looking used, it most likely is... It is probably a core that someone returned when they got their new computer. This is common as they are then reprogrammed and sent back out to another customer.

The 5.3L etc... would bother me too. I wonder if it was mixed up with someone elses when they were shipped?

I don't know what if anything would happen if you tried to install it. I'm 99.9% positive that the truck would not start because it would not be able to identify an incorrect VIN #.

If I were you I'd jump on a plane and fly to Vegas for the SEMA show!!! That way you could ask them in person and have a greast time to boot!!!

this is just my opinion, but i dont think it matters what is written on the case of the PCM. It is just a shell. A 2500HD PCM will physically look just like a 1500 PCM. Sort of like you can put the guts of a Dell computer in a HP case, its still a Dell on the inside. The PCMs are programmed for your specific truck. This PCM was probably out of a 1500 but programmed as a 2500. Personaly, i would have removed any misleading info that was written on the outside before shipping it if i were them, so as to avoid any confusion like it has already. It is just my opinion, but you probably have the correcct PCM for your truck, they just didnt bother to remove any marking on the outside before shipping it.

Of course, you could just have been shipped the wrong PCM, but like i said, even if they had written "6.0 2500HD" on the outside, it would not have guaranteed that was how it was programmed. Basically, your going to either need to stick it in and try it out, or wait to talk to them and make sure the correct one was sent. I would say your odds are 75/25 that you have the correct one for your truck but my odds opinions can be off as much as 50%....LOL.

IIRC, the 6.0, 5.3. and 4.8 all use the same computer...1500 or 2500 makes no difference.

While I agree with the last two posts (it's probably programmed correctly for your truck), I would wait until I talked to them before dropping it in my truck.

Do you think Wait-for-me Performance is going to ship you a new chip with a new engine if you're wrong? Doubt it...Get their word first.

The PCM's are the same for 4.8L up to 8.1L. It very well could have come from a 5.3 half ton. No problemo, its tuned for your application.

Is the white sticker still on it? The correct service # PCM for the 2004 4.8, 5.3 and 6.0 is #12586242.

The 2004 4.3, 8.1 and the LS6 Corvette's use PCM # 12586243. They are not interchangeable.

Yes it does have the white sticker on it with the correct service # for the 6.0.

I will just wait till I talk to them on Monday. Better safe than sorry.

It's the same PCM (as long as it is the blue/green computer... look at the plugs on it). I went to a salvage yard and picked up a core to send in and Jesse told me to make sure I got a blue/green computer. I didn't understand what he was talking about until I picked up the PCM and looked at the plugs. Jesse takes the core or the information on your truck you send in and and programs the new computer (using cores from other trade-ins).

Plug that thing in and feel the difference !!
