clunk . sway "hard to explain" noise from rear

I have this odd noise I get when say I am driving slow, and make a turn into a drivway, or entrance (over a slight curb or incline type of entrance) say when the body would 'rock' on the frame for lack of terms. its like this rubber on metal / squeek / clunk noise, I cant explain.

Its for sure from the back of the tahoe, around the wheels. I thought it may had been my trailer hitch draw bar sloping around, took it out..thats not it..

Thoughts? I thought shocks maybe, but its not ALWAYS when there is body roll..

Dealer could not duplicate..

I have till 39,091 miles to get it in for all this crap, and I need to take it out of thown this weekend....its going to be CLOSE!!!!!! if not over.

Take a peek at the rear coils springs. One time when I replaced my shocks, the spring was not centered properly and it would rub the frame under certain conditions like lots of body roll. It actually rubbed the paint of the spring. A quick adjustment and it went away.

Also, check your spare tire and make sure it is snug up to the top or it can shift and cause noise.

THANKS! I will try both of them, These answers would seem to be viable fixes for the 'type' of noise I hear.. that spare tire even sounds like it may be it! Would have never thought of it... But knowing me, its never the 'easy' fix

The lateral links that locate the rear axle laterally attach to the axle near the pig (differential) and attach to the body outboard from there, I think. The bolts that secure these links at both ends force a friction fit inside two ears. The fit is similar to the fit that a shock absorber has on some car's lower a-arms in front.

These bolts need to be tight enough to keep the center tube at the end of these links from sliding in the ears. But one or both might not be tightened to spec, and one or both of these links might be moving slightly, making the noise, and elongating the hole that the bolt goes through. It'd be tough to inspect these, but its worth a look...
