Not sure if anyone has posted this in the past but since I am new I will ask anyway. A buddy of mine has a 2001 Chevy 2500 HD with the 8.1. Does anyone have any experience with putting a performance chip in?

The most bang from the buck will come from a reprogrammed ecu from westers or the other guy.

I have a westers in mine and like the change.

The hand held programmers really give you gains in the upper end and doesn't let you play with a lot of the things that the westers can change.

I have a 2001 Sierra 2500HD 8.1/Allison.

Go with the Wester's, get the best to start with. I

went with a hand held first and just wasted my money.

What kind of price are we talking about??

OR......you could go to wait4meperformance.com and check out his PCM for $157.70 and keep your factory PCM instead of giving it to Westers. There isnt much difference. Wait4me brought my 8.1L to life and I got better gas mileage for 1/3 the money AND I got to keep my factory PCM.

Wait4me-157.70= :D

Westers -486.98= :seeya:

If price is not the only driving factor in your search for HP, then research your options and make an informed decision. All you'll get here are opinions, and potentially rekindle the Westers vs. Wait4Me war again.

I have Westers and am very happy with the product. I can't speak for the other options on PCM tuning because I didn't buy or use them.

Remember this when reading posts on tuning: If the person posting doesn't own two identical vehicles with one of each of the custom tuned PCM's in them, and can't compare the performance to $ value, it's just an OPINION!

My 2 friggin' cents!

not trying to hyjack the thread, but has anyone installed a tune on a 4.3 v6 in a 95-98 truck? If so, were there any significant performance gains like those seen on the 5.0/5.7?

Haven't you guys heard of a TUNER CAT computer program, No need to send out PCM, can do everything "Wester" does. I have a friend that has it loaded on his laptop, can change anytime>
