belt noise

I have a belt noise on start up when it is cold or it is the first start up of the day. The rest of the day it is fine. Anyone know what the problem may be? I hope its an easy fix, because the warranty is gone. (52K miles)

probably just need to replace the serpentine belt.  Not a very major thing

 

Mine squeaks pretty bad in cold weather then when it warms up it is fine.  Been doing it since november.

It has been pretty cold lately. Below 0 at nite and about 10-15 during the day.

its been in the 20's here last 2 days.  Tonight itll be below zero.

 

Also my moms serpentine belt was knocking (less than 18K on her blazer).  Dealer changed it out

If you replace your serpentine belt, make sure you specifically ask for a Gates belt.  They are about double the price of a regular belt, but come with a lifetime warrenty.  Much, much better quality then those cheap a$$ belts that most people like to use.  For that matter, I wouldn't put anything other then Gates belts and hoses on my truck, just for the extra piece of mind.

Did you guys know that we actually have two belts on our truck?  The big serpentine belt and a smaller belt that you can't even see unless you take the front skidplate off.

Kansas, where do you pick up a "Gates" belt/hoses?  All that's in the stores over here is Goodyear & some cheap no name brand.

There's a TSB on the annoying "chirping" on cold starts.  Something to do with the allignment of the pulleys, I think.  They fixed my Tahoe last week.

I normally get them at O'Reilly's, but I don't know if you have any of those in your area.  I have bought them at a Napa store before, so you might check there as well.

 

Maybe nobody stocks them in your area, but I have never had a problem finding them.

i had that squeak on start up about 3 weeks ago changed my belt and the prob was solved, i also didnt op for the cheap belt. havent had a prob since i changed it

More info please!  My Tahoe is 10 months old (23,000miles) and has that chirping sound.  It's funny, I don't hear it when I'm in the truck.  Great sound insulation!
