6 inch lift question?

If I were to lift my 2001 5.3L Suburban to 6 inch lift kit and with 16x10 w/ 305/75 tires; Is a gear change necessary? I had to ask because a shop says I don't really need too. I hear differ..Can a Hypertech Gen 3 programmer be effecient in compensating bigger tires and the suspension height change or better go with the gear change?
