Small leak at exhaust manifold

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hi,

Just got my cats replaced (and all 4 O2 sensors).

Mechanic said I had a small exhaust manifold leak.

Wondering what effects this has on emissions (the O2 sensors and the cats).

Does it screw up the O2 readings, etc...?

Yes it will. If you have emissions testing, the readings will not be in the normal range and at least in my state, you would have to spend the money or fix it yourself, until the vehicle passes. The leak will just get larger anyway, the longer you wait the harder it will be to get the bolts off. Snap one, now you got big $$$ repair.

Unless your state has emmissions testing the leak won't affect anything, the annoying noise may affect your sanity tho.

I would fix the leak as soon as feasible due to the fact it will only get worse and possibly cause other issues down the road. Where was the leak on the manifold?

Thanks for the replies,

I took it to the dealer sat. and they didn't find anything

I'm guessing that it's such a small leak, when the engine warms up, it stops.

O well, didn't charge me for checking it out.

I guess if it does get worse or start actually hearing it i'll take it in.
