Adding Fog Lamps on a 98 Silverado

Recommended Posts

I have a 98 Silverado Ext Cab and it all stock. I like the look of fog lamps and I had a thought of using the switch off a 97 where it mounts to the dash. And buying a set of aftermarkets and putting them in the bottom air dam by the recovery hooks. Anyone ever done this? Could use a little help. Anyone know where to get the harness for the switch?

Get the switch and see what kind of connectors it takes and make your own harness. Use a relay to power the lights and just use the switch to power the relay. I would not trust 55w x2 lights drawing all that power through the switch.

Could you go into more detail. Electrical work is not my best subject to understand, unless there is a harness already made. I have never made one before. What type of relay and how would I hook it up. If you have a place I could see maybe a wiring diagram of a relay I could figure it out. Thanks in advance.

I used google and a wiring diagram to make mine. Search the net it is all there.

Not to oversimplify...get the switch and see what kind of connections are on it. They will probably be flat so you can spade connectors. The relay from radio shack will need spade connectors. Get some 10 and 16-18ga wires, heat shrink, crimpers and get to makin em.
