DVD Player Install

Newbie lurker here - I have an '04 Sierra Denali ext. cab and have been thinking about adding subs, amp, DVD player and monitor(s). I know I can integrate the amp with the PAC device and buy a sub box for under my rear seat, but where are you guys finding places to mount your amp - pics please!

Same scenario for the DVD player - I've read the overhead DVD install topic and really like this because of the integration into the NAV system and the DVD player is mounted up on the headliner. My concern is having the dropdown screen in your face between you and the passenger - remember, I have an ext.cab not dual cab. I also like the look of the dual headrest monitors and it sure looks easier to install. So for the guys who've added the headrest monitors - where'd you install the DVD player so you'd have access to it? I already have an INR DVD NAV with a 6-disk mounted in the console. Would like to see some pics of your installs!

I have been working with some guys to try and manipulate the overhead console (at the windsheild) to hold the stock panasonis DVD player. This would be a great mounting place for it in my opinion.

Problem is the angle of the player when inserted causes it to hit the roof. I will let you know if we can work out the details.

Thanks for the reply, Linda. I've read many of your replies pertaining to this as well as the NAV systems in other threads.

In the front console, now that would be cool! I've been looking for a small monitor - perhaps a rearview mirror type to use in this console for a backup camera monitor - a 2.5"x 6" widescreen would be awesome!

Have mostly been thinking about my entire system and what it should look like when it is all done. I like the headrest monitors, but am not sure where to mount the DVD so it is accessible. Just looking for good ideas at this point.

OK - been looking at Ext. Cab under the rear seat sub boxes. Kind of like the downfire boxes as everything is hidden from sight, but wonder about vibration vs. clean bass sound. Anyone care to offer an opinion of downfire vs. frontfire sub boxes? Any other thoughts for installing 2-10" subs in an ext. cab?

Hey Linda - I've been working on this idea and have a few questions for you and anyone else who may read this! What I want to do is to mount an OEM Panasonic player in the front upper sonsole on my Sierra Denali (ext. cab) and have the output go to headrest monitors instead of the flipdown monitor.

I have purchased a cheap used Panasonic overhead DVD player that I've dis-assembled and have modified my front overhead console to accept the panasonic player. I have figured out that if I move the OEM upper console rearward (towards backseat) about 2" and then install a 1/2-3/4" spacer (covered plywood, OSB, ??? - ideas?) the OEM player can be installed in the front upper console - after you reshape the front opening of the console to match the front design of the player. I have done this part and am working on the spacer.

This almost seems like more trouble than it is worth, but I like the challenge of doing things that "can't be done"!

Questions I have so far:

1) Can anyone tell me where the cable from the overhead DVD player plugs into the truck?

2) Has anyone added headrest monitors to their factory overhead DVD player?

3) Can you tell me how you interfaced them with the OEM player? The 16 pin connector on the back of the player that goes to the flipdown monitor seems to be my biggest challenge now as I will need to figure out how to interface/connect the headrest monitors to this cable properly.

I know PAC makes some interfaces for video inputs to the in-dash INR NAV which may take care of the monitor wiring issue, but I haven't figured out the wireless headphone and remote sensor issues either. The remote I could probably live without, but the headphones?????

Also, I found some pin-outs for a panasonic player on another thread/site and they don't match mine at all. Anyone have them for a 2004 Trailblazer Panasonic overhead DVD player?

Still a lot of issues! Thoughts anyone???
