Speaker options for rear of '92 extended cab

I need to replace the speakers that are in the rear pillar of my '92 extended cab. Are 4x6 speakers my only option? I'd like to put something bigger in there, 6x9 if at all possible. I've explored the possibility of adding some kind of aftermarket speaker enclosure, but all of the custom models that I've seen are for subs.

Thanks for any info.

I never had an ex-cab from those years...Is the speaker in the pillar? I only ask because the newer ones are in the rear doors, and you can throw 6" midrange drivers in there with minimal alterations.

Good luck making anything other than a 4x6 fit in that spot.. Also changing out those speakers are a pain in the rear because of the flimsy plastic..

Wingnut.....yes, in that model, they are in the rear pillars. There are no rear doors.....

ridnlow....I've heard that changing these things out are a really pain....maybe even requires removing the back seat to remove those panels?

I rarely use that back seat for anything. This truck isn't used as a family vehicle the way that it once was. We've got a Tahoe that handles that duty now. I've thought about gettting some of those 6x9 speaker boxes and just laying them in the back seat......pretty sure that would look like crap.

Any other ideas?

Get you some kick panels, get a good set of components, put a good 100-200 watt amp on them and let it be.. only person who will notice the rear speakers is passengers..
