Blackwood

Driving down the freeway, I saw a truck I had never seen before. Definitely not a Mopar, not quite GM, kinda looked like a Ford. It said "Blackwood" on the tailgate. I began to pass the thing, and noticed on the sides of the bed was a fake dark wood decal, with horizontal silver pinstripes on it. UGLY!! I then saw the front end, and there was the distinctive sewer grate grill of a Lincoln Mercury. Now, I own a Silverado, and will be the first to admit that my truck isn't the prettiest thing out there, but I had to laugh- how much did they pay for this ugly POS? Maybe twice as much as my truck? I had to laugh.....

Blackwood is (was?) made by Lincoln. I looked at one on a Ford/Lincoln new car dealership lot a couple of years ago. He probably paid less for his truck than you did since back then the dealer told me they were a flop and they had them discounted by about 50% (from MSRP).

They did discontinue the blackwood a while ago, but Lincoln just released anothe version of the truck, not sure what they are calling it but it seems to be flopping as well. It is just a F-150 with Lincoln badges, nothing special.

Keep your eyes out for these. They're truly ugly, partly because they're just a Ford with extra gingerbread, but also (I think) because they were designed by talking to study groups.

So imagine a room full of 50 year old men, who have lost their looks, have lots of money, have no sense of practicality, and who are asked if they like this gingerbread or that gingerbread.

THAT is what a Blackwood represents to me.

So when you see one, and you finish tossing your cookies, make sure you realize that there's a pompous and out of touch segment of our population who thought that their creation would be the cat's meow. And they're still out there!

The Blackwood replacement is called the Lincoln LT (Light Truck?). It's not like the Blackwood. It's just a gaudy looking F150 with a Navigator grille and a few do dads here and there. It costs less than the Blackwood did. My brother-in-law just bought one (his son works at the dealership and made him a hell of a deal). It only comes in a CC/SB. The Blackwood was not a very practical vehicle for someone that 'needs' a pickup. The LT is still a Ford pickup, just uglier in my opinion.

That grille just does not belong on a truck, and the tailights...........gag!

I still like my Chevy better, inside and out. And I don't mind getting mine dirty.

They were a turd for Lincoln.

They forced each dealership to take at least one of them.

I saw at least 3 dealerships with theirs over a YEAR later. unsold.

Way overpriced and ugly to boot.

I have seen a few of those on the highways, and all were black in color. I don't know if they even made them in a different color. I remember seeing commercials for them and the features they were touting made me believe it was a truck for geriatric people. It had powered lifts on the sides so you can easily get in the truck; powered seats that rose up so you could easily press the button on the powered sunroof.

I just couldn't take that truck seriously. I guess it was developed by the engineers of the F150 and the Lincoln town car. I don't think it is a vehicle that anyone will miss. -Shoot2Thrill

Sales were so bad on those overpriced things...Right before they quit making them, a lot of dealerships were offering the deal of: If you buy a Blackwood, we'll give you a Mercury Cougar as well.

No I'm not joking, they would give you the car too! Apparantly, they couldn't move the Cougar either.

They call (called) it a full size pick-up and the maximum payload was 550lbs, if I remember correctly.

I passed one of those lincoln trucks the other day too, and was wondering the same thing. And man are they ugly looking. I saw a blackwood too upclose a few years ago at the mall. You couldnt pay me to drive one of those distgusting looking things.
