OEM Fog Lights

For a 2000 Silverado, do the factory fog lamps (I just installed a set) have to be programmed by the dealer?

They stay on only when the headlights are on and the switch does do anything. Not sure if I used the right slot (D6) on the forward lamp cluster. The instructions said A3 but it was already taken.

Also, what type of switch is the one used for the fog lamps? It's not the same as the cargo switch which stayed pushed when on. I pushed and it comes back to the original position.

Once again, thanks for all of your help!

I know the '99 needed to be programmed, I'm pretty sure the 2000 does too. Been a while. There was a point at which they no longer had to be programmed, but I don't recall what year that was. Later than 2000 I'm pretty sure. The switch is just a momentary contact switch, it doesn't stay in when pushed.

Been years since I have installed fog lights and set them up, so you have to be a little more exact on what you're talking about. I have no idea what a "forward lamp cluster" is. We don't have anything with that designation that I ever heard of, so I don't know what you mean.

Oh, and by the way, the fog lights WILL only come on with the low beams. They're not meant to be used with high beams or without headlights at all.

I was refering to the forward lamp 32-way connector/harness. It's connected in the top left position of the BEC.

The GM instructions said to connect the fog lamps wire into the A3 position, but that was already taken (at least from the connector orientation that I was using)so I used D6. Page 7 of the installation instruction sheet.

So my only concern is that the fog lamps are always on with the low beams, I can't turn them off or on. Do you think programming the computer will make it recognize the switch? or maybe the wire position is the wrong one?

BTW: I truly appreciate you taking your personal time to answer our questions.

Thank you very much!!!!

Hi divejoe,

Sorry didn't mean to butt in :banghead:

I also just bought and installed the GM OEM fog light kit.

I pretty much have everything installed (fog lights, wiring harness, connector to the 'A3' terminal-(mine was open), and the ground).

I only have to install the dash foglight/cargo light control box.

I guess if they don't work I'll get it programmed.

I was wondering if you went and got your TBC module programmed? And if so how much did it cost?

thanks

Did the instructions say D7 was an alternate option? I'll have to review the schematics when I get to work and see if I can figure out where you put it.

I don't believe programming will fix your problems. As I recall, when the programming wasn't done, the fog lights didn't work at all. They didn't stay on with the low beams.

I looked at the schematics. A3 is definitely the fog lamp feed, so if something is in there, I'd say you are not identifying the connector positions correctly. A3 comes off the fog lamp relay, so if you don't get your wire in the right spot, your fog lights are not going to work, or work incorrectly, as you have found.

A2 and A4 both have a dark blue wire in them. See if that is what's on either side of what you believe to be A3. If not, then it's not A3.

Oh, and the correct connector is green in color.

Once again you're right. There it was an empty A3 slot, go figure. I guess the next step is to get them programmed since now they don't work at all.

Would that be costly? Is there a flat rate?

Many thanks and have a great weekend!!! Hopefully and if my truck cooperates, you won't hear from us in a while.

Take care!

Hi divejoe,

Just went in today to get mine programmed.

It took less than 15 min. and cost $55.00

They work great.

As GM-Tech said, they only come on when you have the low beams turned on.

Also if you look close, the green connector has the terminal numbers on it (A-F & 1-6) in a 6x6 matrix. They're printed very small though...

I'd say you should figure on an hour labor, even though it only takes 15 minutes. I don't know what the going rate is in your area.

Didn't see the fine print, but I think I got the right one. I'll get mine programmed on Monday. Wew I though it was going to be more expensive. How many miles do you have on your Silverado? Any major problems yet? Be aware of the rear main seal, I just got mine replaced.

thanks much! Take care

Just thought I would let you all know there is a tech article over on another forum that goes into great detail on how to install the lights and wiring necessary. It is at www.fullsizechevy.com under the tech articles area, the subject is "Installing factory fog lights, 04 Silverado". Also here is the direct link; http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=149544

I am planning to buy the kit myself and also do the install. The part number is 12499673 for anyone else interested in it.

Have a great day.
