Tailgate Question!

Guys what do you call the tailgate "dimples" that the gate sits on? There at the bottom of the tailgate sides, and allow the gate to rotate open and close.

One of mine has rusted out this last winter and the tailgate is now sagging a little when I go to close it. I have to lift up from the bottom lip of the gate to close it.

Has anyone ever had to replace there's? And if so, how much did the "stealer" want for a new one?

Those are the hinges and they are between 5 - 10 dollars each. (4 pieces, 2 go on the tailgate, 2 go on the bed) If I remember right, 3 were almost $10 and one was around $6 dollars.

Thanks Mountaineer Tom for the reply. Stange I never thought about calling them "hinges". Heck I don't know why just didn't "look" like a hinge. Thanks again, I'll go to the dealer and get hooked up! :lookaround:

LOL, your welcome.

BTW, the thing that moves, in the middle-upper part of the outside of the tailgate, is called the "H-A-N-D-L-E". Just kidding. I did something similar the other day at work. Couldn't think of the name of something, and when someone said it, I felt like pretty dumb.

BTW, they probably won't be painted.

The correct term for this component is the tailgate trunion.

Keep them lubed with either white lithium, or Castrol

waterproof grease in order to keep out water and reduce

wear on the painted surfaces.

Hey Mountaneer Tom, When you put the z71 decals on did you have to remove the old z71 decal? They look really good! My Victory Red Chebby would look good too! But when it was repainted they clearcoated OVER the z71 decal! So to install a new decal it would have to be identical!

That sucks. ???

The flag is is very close, but I don't know if it's exactly the same size, I had the other style Z71, and I never really measured the newer style that closely.
