Tranny hesitation anyone?

My truck and three other people I have spoken with have had this happen.. That is a momentary slip or hesitation when you take off..Kinda like the tranny is disengadged and then sudenly catches.. It only happens every now and then for me but wanted to see if anyone else has noticed this.. It also kinda feels like the tires are spinning or are wet but thats not it..

Any info on this anomaly ??

Redhawk,

My tranny was doing this big time...  check out my thread in the HD section if you already haven't done so.  The service mgr and tech were both able to duplicate it, and they updated the programming in my computer.  My truck would rev to 2500 rpm and then drop in gear.  It was ugly!!!

Its because of all those times you beat a mustang.  Its getting tired. :)

Mine does it too its like the shaft back off a little and when you give it a little gas it goes bang. :D

My 01 Tahoe starts in 2nd gear from a stop about 1% of the time which feels pretty weird ... if ya punch it it will shift down and of course really takes off.  If I put the gearshift in 2nd it will almost always take off in 2nd.

Mine did it worse when the truck was new but still does it now some( once every 3000-5000 miles). Two of my other friends with 1/2 ton truck also slip .. One is a 01 and the other a 02.

Mine has done the exact thing you described Brook. Just a few times though. It is weird. In my case, I noticed it happening when I would come to a fairly quick stop and then go w/o stopping all the way. It was like it just hung between gears.

Fast4.8, mine acted up alot on the "rolling stop" too.  But it would also do it from a dead stop.

So far the reprogramming that the dealer did has cured it 100%.

Mine will kick down into the passing gear then shift up then kick back down again. I was told maybe a valve body sticking or the overdrive sensor on the tranny? Any ideas. Or maybe my computer needs reprogramming.

Wellll, I will post to it tooo.. Mine has been doing it since I got it..... Which was October 2001......... In 2005 I had a friend that worked at a GM dealership he told me there was a flash that would clear it up.... Of course I LET HIM FLASH my truck.... Without thinking... DUH..... It cleared it up for a while then it started doing it again...

Mostly I found stopped quick she'd start funny (that is to say you would hit the gas and hear the engine rev away and when you let off the gas and get almost to idle rpms... it would shift into 1st like you just pulled it out of N and dropped it in Drive)..... I get this at least once a month... Just enough to freeeeeeeeek me out a bit it always likes to do it when I am more than 100 miles from HOME and my shop..

But it has done it for 11 years the first owner I knew him and he said it did it the day he test drove the truck before he bought it...

[ Are you sure thgis is a tranny problem? These trucks had a problem with the driveshaft trying to "wind up". You would come to a stop and suddenly the truck would lurch. There was a TSB on this and it involves lubing the slip yoke with synthetic lube.

Mine is transmission.... I can not see it doing what mine is doing unless it is. When it happens you can press the gas to your hearts content. 2k 3k 4k..... and hold it... It will not be in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th. The engine will just rev...... When it gets to about 800 or less you feel it shift into first and lurch forward slightly. After the lurch your in first repress the gas and it will take off like normal.

If that was in the drive shaft the slip yoke would have been stripped by the 4k seconds I have had with no movement before...
