In-tank fuel filters

Could you enlighten me a bit on these in-tank fuel filters on the 04+ Hd series.

What's involved in changing the filters, etc. I am anal about keeping up the maintenance on my vehicles. A nonserviceable filter seems like one stupid stupid stupid choice for GM to make.

When I change the filters on the other cars @ 15k they are dirty as ever when I cut them open to inspect.

Thanks for any input.

I know of no way to change the in-tank filter. It's part of the fuel pump module and *supposedly* a lifetime filter. I imagine under normal circumstances, it probably will last a lifetime, but if you pick up a load of dirt/rust during a fillup and it gets clogged up, you'll have to replace the whole module.

There may be some aftermarket people that see a possible market for the filter and come out with one. Next time we have one of these modules out of a tank, I'll look to see what kind of a job it would be to replace just the filter.

Thanks for keeping me in mind.

I plan to keep this truck till the wheels fall off so thats why it's a concern with the filter.

I'd hate to drop $9,000 for a fuel pump 5 years down the road from now.
