New to GM and have some questions

Hello all,

I would like to ask a few questions on a used truck my dad just purchased. The truck is a 2004 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD with the duramax and allison combo in it.

The questions are as follows:

1) What is the capacity of the fuel tank, the owners manual is vague and doesn't actually have a number for any of the 2500 series trucks. Every truck is listed but the 2500's which is odd or may be a misprint.

2) What is the normal operating temperature for the trans guage?

3) Is there any problems with running Shell Rotella-T?

4) Is any Turbo cool-down time needed? In my Jeep and my brothers Ram cool-down is required, is this also the case for the GM's?

Just to give a little background information on our vehicles, we as a family are new to GM, I currently have an '06 Jeep Liberty diesel version (CRD), and my brother has an '05 Dodge Ram 2500 with the Cummins in it. Each of the pickups will be used semi-often for towing/hauling, mostly a trailer w/ skid steer so they will be used however the Chevy will also be a daily driver. Any help with these questions would be greatly appreciated.

Tank size varies depending on the bed size of the truck. (99silveradoz71 already cleared that up).

Depending on the climate (outside temps), these trtannies run surprisingly cool. When towing heavy loads, temps of about 200* are possible. When running empty, 120*-160* seem to be the norm.

I don't see why there would be any probs running Rotella-T. A quick call to the service dept will clear that up.

When running hard, a little turbo cool-down time would be a good idea.

Just to add my two cents. I used to use Rotella in my truck and had no problems with it. I switched to Mobil Delvac and it seemed to clean the engine out better. The first oil change was quite dirty, but I feel it is cleaner now. Also, I'm pretty sure Mobil is a tad cheaper.

Oh and tell your bro not to be surprised when the Dmax shows up his Ram!
