rear axle swap

Friend of mine has a 2003 Silverado just like mine but no rear locker, we found a wrecked 04 with the G80 and 3:73's(pretty sure it's an 04) anyway any problem with just removing his and sliding the other one in and bolting it up instead of tearing both apart ? We figured it would be alot easier to remove his rear axle and just bolt the whole 9 yards up.

I don't see any problem with that, like you said,a heck of a lot easier doin' that than tearing apart two rear ends.

Just two things I can think of,Make sure the donor truck wasn't hit on the axle (You don't want a bent axle shaft) And definetly change the fluid in the donor trucks axle.

Truck was hit lightly in the front, not that it matters but it's the same truck my Corsa came off of. Fluid will be changed. Just wanted to make sure they didn't change something that would prevent a total swap.

First, the G80 is no locker. It is a friction material limited slip unit with a poor following. Unless the axle cost less than a hundred bucks, the money and time to install a G80 Govbomb axle isn’t worth it. Better off buying a Detroit Truetrac that doesn’t have friction material to wear out. Your friend would be much happier with that in the long run.
