I have a 97 k1500 with a 5.7. It has 91K on it.

The blower stopped working. It does not run on any speeds. I did check the fuse and its fine. One other thing is it was making a electrical smell burning smell.

I know were the resister, blower and relay are. I would like to know it you can change the relay and resister from behind the glove compartment? If not i heard you have to roll the console back. I was looking for how to do that but have not seen anything in the service manual on it.

If its the blower do you have to remove the bolts from the fire wall to take out the hole assembly? Do you have to drain the radiator?

Thanks for any help.

It's unlikely the blower resistor and the high speed relay went at once. It's more likely it's the blower motor. See if you're getting power to the motor in the various speeds.

The blower motor can be fairly easily removed. Hard to describe, but you don't have to remove much. Some trim, the glove box, etc. You don't have to move the dash or take the case out.

I removed the blower wire and got 12 voltes. The voltages do not change if I move the from low to high on the switch. They remain at 12 voltes. I'm getting a new blower today, but was thinking the resister pack maybe dead. I'll try the blower in the parking lot and see if it works.

Can you change the resister pack through the glove compartment? Do you have to roll the dash? If so how?

Thanks

Tried new blower motor in parking lot of AutoZone. Blower motor worked fine on all speeds.

Blower Motor was $60. Seamans PM149 new.

One bolt was a pain to remove and replace. (bottom right side) Had to buy a 7/32 wrench. Could not fit socket in the area.

Had to remove passenger floor side molding and I broke the tab off the foam cover at the bottom. Had to remove the glove compartment too.
