Fog lights!?

My dad has a 2000 GMC Z71, Same thing as me but I have a 2002,  He has fog lights on his lower valance(where the hooks come out) and he does not ever turn them on or use them.  Now my question is this, How hard would it be to just swap the whole valance onto my truck along with the wires and switch?  Would this be somthing I might want to do, or is it way to much work? thanks!

Should be a pretty easy swap, but you will have to get the dealer to reprogram the trucks computer so that it "knows" it has fog lights.  ???

Good luck with it.

If I did the swap I'd just wire to a hot or accessory (i.e., keyed) power source and install a switch on the dash or anywhere else that suits me.  This would give total control over when the lights are on and you wouldn't have to worry about the computer.  My 2 cents...

The computer is the key for sure I just put foglights on my 02 silverado.  I had to make a second trip to the dealer because only one tech new how to program the computer and he was not around.  (its a small shop in a small town) There did not seem to be that much to installing fog lights it was just time consuming.  took some time to run the wiring harness and to take the dash apart to replace the switch.  The foglights came with a whole new switch top for cargo light bottom for fog lights.  because I had to have the computer programed and I was charged only 1hr labour for them to do the job. I had the dealer install them.   The GM service dept advised them that the job takes 1hr but the tech was 2hrs doing it.   Good luck.

I just finished adding fog lights to my 99 2500 and what I did seemed like a good idea you may want to try.  I bought a remote control unit at advance auto, it has two remotes and you don't have to run any wires into the cab, just hook up to you hot terminal block and run a ground wire to the alt. bracket and hook up the lights and your done, works great. the remote package is 30 bucks , but sounds like your getting the lights for cheap. Better than fishing wires and going to the dealer and all.
