New Silverado Owner

Well I found this site thanks to one of you from the Edmunds site.  I recognized Ryan maybe it was him.  I got a brand spanking new Silverado 1500 (reg cab short bed) with the 5.3 liter, for Valentines Day.  (Of course I still have to make the payments but the GF was more than happy to let me buy it...)

Been all over looking for a good site and was very happy finding this one.  You all seem like great people, unlike some of the jerks on the Edmunds site.

Right now the truck is all stock with the exception of the rain vents (quite necessary here in Southeast Alaska.)  Looking forward to adding some nerf bars, and possibly a body lift/larger wheels and tires.  I included a pic below.

Nice looking truck.

Glad you like the site too.  :)

We have some info here on installing some Westin CPS step bars, or Nerf bars, if you want to check it out.  Step rail install  And chevy4x4trucks has some info on installing a body lift.  He just put it on a week or so ago.  http://www.chevy4x4trucks.com/  He has tons of pics in the Pictures/Images section and some "step-by-step style" instructions in the Technical Install section.

The color matched Flares were a factory addition.  I wasn't sure if I would like them painted, but when it showed up I was glad I did it.  Also my father had a silver mazda at one time here, and it really hid the dirt well, so I went with Pewter instead of the Dark Blue which I really liked as well.  So far I'm extremely happy with it, and when clean it looks so darn beautifull.  Is it a sin to love a truck? ;)  My GF says I'd sleep in the cab if she'd let me, I told her, nah...  I wouldn't want to wear the seats out prematurely.

Thanks for the links to the body lift/steps.  That looks like the nerfs will be no problem, but I might have to enlist some help on the body lift for sure.

Again thanks for the welcome.

Looks like a nice truck.  Welcome to the forum, where in Alaska are you, I vacationed up there a few years back.  It's a long drive from Illinois, I'll tell you that much!!  I helped (alright, I did 95% of the work ;)) Chevy4x4Trucks put his bodylift on, so if and when you decide to get one let me know any questions you have.

As you should of since you narrowly destroyed 50% of the truck

Welcome aboard, feel free to ask any questions and like they said, take a gander at my site for some info on installing the body lift.  It should help you out quite a bit.

BTW, go w/ some X-Terrains, these things are great, no slippage in the snow/freezing rain yesterday.  Too bad I won't get to test them out in any real snow for another 9 months or so.

Firecadet:  I live in Juneau

All:  I made this post in the aftermarket but Ryan and a few others seem ot have the Husky mudflaps so maybe you can answer it...

I picked up a set of the Husky Mud flaps for my 2002 Silverado.  I have the factory flares and these look like they will fit perfect.  My flares are paint matched, so the mudflaps come with this 3m protective sticker you place on the flare to help prevent rubbing on the flares.  What question I have is this...

I placed the mudflaps up against the flare and it looks like it'll be close but not actually touching, do I really need to use the 3M product?  I'm assuming the worst that could happen is the flaps might rub a little of the paint off the flares where it touches, but eventually it'll rub through the 3m sticker too.

The 3m says it needs to be warm (like 60 degrees) for it to adhere bestl.  And I'll have to wait till June for that, since I live in AK...

Thanks ahead.

Nice!  I like the color matched fender flares.  Were they on it when you bought the truck?

I like em too!

I need to get me some :)

My flaps didnt come with the 3m sticker thing

I just put em on.  There is slight rubbing.  You can tell there is a slight line on the flare where the flap is but it isnt bad at all after 2 yrs
