Rear View Mirror Setting Questions

Hello,

I just picked up my new-to-me 2003 Sierra EC SB. I love it so far!

I do not yet have the manuals- they are being sent to me. Can anyone tell me if the "Passenger Airbag- On/Off" notice on the bottom of the rearview mirror that is lit up in yellow lettering can be turned OFF, and if so, how? I find it very distracting and annoying.

Thanks in advance!

Not been able to figure out how to do it on my 04. I still like the key operated switch on the dash for the 99-02 body style. :D

vroten

It can not. It will light up when there is no one in the passenger seat, or if the person in the passenger seat is under a certain weight, I think 100 lbs but not 100% sure. I know when my sister, who is like a toothpick, sits in my pass. seat the light stays on! That way you don't have to turn it on an off. Feds decided the manual turn on and off thing was not good I guess, since some people might turn it off and never turn it back on again.

I use a very small piece of black tape over any annoying lights (like "check engine" or anything else I don't want to look at. Just trim it to size as to not cover anything else up.

Haha, that made me chuckle...my pops and I used to joke about sticking tape over the check engine light! :jester:

I can't speak on the fullsize trucks and/or pre-'03, but I do know that on my '04 DXL it can't be turned off (while the vehicle is not off/not running); instead, the mirror will have the "PASSENGER AIR BAG" and the "OFF" indicators backlit if there is no passenger or lightweight passenger...and "PASSENGER AIR BAG" and "ON" indicators backlit if there is a passenger (or any object) of sufficient weight in the front passenger seat.
