Disabling the Automatic Lights in a 2000 Silverado

But I can't find the thread about using the search engine....

 

I have a 2000 Silverado and I want to disable my automatic lights (ambient light sensor) How do I go about making it where at night I have to manually turn my headlight switch on?

 

I am tired of making guys at the boat ramp when I trailer my boat at 2 AM after the tournament is over....

For my '02 Sierra I have to push the 'dome override' button 4 times...then the automatic mode is disabled and the lights turn off. I believe it explains this in my owner's manual...but I discovered it just the other day when playing around with it.

 

The 'dome override' button on my truck is located directly below the headlamp switch.

Thanks for the information but that doesn't work in my 2000...I have tried it ...Weird thing though a buddy has a 99 Silverado, another buddy has an 02 and it works in his... Go figure ...Good ole' GM engineering!!!

When the NBS came out there was no way to turn off your headlights. Definitly 1999 and most of 2000 models were that way. What you have to do is replace the little sensor in the dash with a resistor and it turns it back to good ol' manual headlights. I can't remember off the top of my head what size resistor. Either someone here remembers, or I'll have to look in my file cabinet for the instructions when I had my 1999. Don't just cross the wires, you'll fry it. Leaving them unconnected keeps your lights on constantly.

I believe they are also controlled by the BCM. I found one on E-bay for $3.00 from a 2001 and installed it in my '99. I did mainly because I wanted to de-program the auto locks. I also found out from here that you have to do the key re-learn procedure after reconnecting the BCM. Thank god for GM-trucks.com.
