6.0L 4x4

Just bought my truck, and I was wondering how many miles you all are getting on a tank of fuel. I believe my fuel gauge is inaccurate, as the first time I filled up it never went past 3/4.

On this tank I've driven 200 miles and the gauge shows less than 1/4 tank. I don't believe that's right, but I'm wondering how long I should risk it before filling up again.

I feel I should get around 300 miles on a full tank, that would be about 12 mpg.

Right after 200 miles I am looking for a gas station, granted I am not EMPTY but as fast as the gauge likes to go down I better start looking. In all reality by doing the math I should be able to go 286 miles before it runs dry. I soooooo wish that big of a truck had a larger tank thank just 26 gal.

It is going to depend on the bed size seeing short beds have 26 gallons, and long beds have 34 I think..

In my 8.1 short bed, I got 280 on my last tank.. but this one I am lucky to get 140 with my plow on the whole time.

I usually get about 250 to 265 miles to a tank and that is usually running the tank down to where there is only about 1 to 1 1/2 gallons left.

The best that I ever got was about 331 to a tank, but that was almost all highway driving.

This should probably be a seperate topic BUT, someone told me one time that running your truck below 1/4 tank is hard on the fuel pump.

  Is that true?

If thats the case, I will need a fuel pump soon, I constantly run until the dumby light comes on or I get to my favorite station.

As far as miles per tank, I am at average of 320, highest this winter is 354. I drive about 30miles/day highway at 70-74 and 30miles/day country road 55-60 with at lease 5miles between stops.

2005 2500HD short box (26 gal tank) 6.0L 4L80E. Average about 260 miles between fillups, about 20 gallons. I don't like to go lower than that because the fuel in the tank cools the fuel pump, and I want the fuel pump to last a long time. Best distance on one tank was about 350 miles, all highway driving at about 60 mph.

03 Crew cab 4.10's 26 gallon tank 4x4 285's

average about 275 miles

best was 320 or so with factory tires.

Doesn't bother me much, I didn't buy this "leadsled" for the fuel economy...

Never owned a car, never plan to.

Fuel economy, as fas as I'm concerned, is an urban myth....
