Hypertech install

Greetings.

This morning I installed a Hypertech Power Programmer III into my '03 ECSB with a 4.8L. I did this to recalibrate my speedo as it was about 7% off according to that miata.net website (new tires). The install went fine. Very easy. On my first drive after the install as I was approaching 45mph the 'Traction Active' message showed and it felt like the brakes were applying. I turned the traction control off and it went back to normal. Then when I stopped at the first stop light the engine stumbled a little like it wanted to stall, then idled fine. After about 5-10 miles everything was cleared up and she really goes fine now even with the traction system back on. Are these two events normal? Anything to worry about? By the way, the speedo is right on and, like I say, she drives great.

no experience w/ my new truck, but i had a hypertech chip in my '93 and right after i installed it i had similar "stalling" symptoms for a few of the first miles also...same thing happened when i took the chip out before i sold the truck.

my guess is it's just the computer relearning. but i'm no expert.

have you noticed any improvements? I need to recal for my tires as well, and have not decided what to do yet. My inclination is to go w/ a wait4me pcm b/c of the $157 deal, whereas the hypertechs are ~$400.

It has a little more 'pep' but I don't think it really has that much increased power. It seems the shifts are timed better so it uses the 'power curve' better. My Hypertech was on sale for $320 so I decided to go that way instead of having the dealer reprogram for about $120 or so. I figured the extra $$ would be worth the slightly increased performance.
