While performing some routine maintenance on our GMC

Monday (checking fluids, tire pressures, etc) I thought that

I'd check the spare. I set the tire pressure and decided to

give the spare tire carrier a go. I reviewed the owner's manual unlocked the cover, and inserted the rod which simply spun without engaging the square input shaft for the winch. I had the truck backed out of the shop and the Sun was so bright that in order to see inside the tube I needed to shine a flashlight inside only to discover that the square drive sits approximately 1" lower than the tube, and there is no come and go on the wrench inside the tube. I did search on this wonderful site, however tire carrier problems were more restricted to lift kits and license plate issues. Any ideas on this would be quite helpful. Thanks 3dflag.gif

I got a mailer from GM back in January about a flexible tool for cranking the spare tire down.  Apparently they had some alignment issues with the standard tool not being able to lower the spare.  GM will send the tool for free.  I will check the P/N for the part and the campaign number.  The dealer might be able to help also.
