Steering Column Noise

Recommended Posts

When turning the steering wheel at slow speeds such as when parking or manuvering into the garage I frequently hear and feel through the steering wheel a "groan" in the steering column.  Sort of like:  "eemmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm" (Like that description  ;) ).

The fluid level in the power steering is fine.  You folks have correctly analyzed/answered all previous issues I've had so how about having a go at this one.  Thanks in advance.

Jason told me that there was some rubber boot or something under tha dash where the steering shaft goes through.

He said to grease it up to fix the noise.  All i found was a a spot where the steering wheel goes through the firewall, and lubed it as best i could (tight) but it didnt help

Hopefully Jason can chime in here and help us both out, or he can help me this weekend in Houston at the gathering :)

Mine did that after 15,000 miles and I Brought it to the dealer.  He said the person who did the oil changes has been missing a lube zerk.  I think its the one that you have to take the skid plate off to get at.-  Thats the only one I miss when I do the oil change    the dealer lubed it and the noise is gone.

Hope this helps.
